Chapter 1: Hogwarts
I woke up in the morning, bright and early due to Dumbledore’s request. I sighed, brushing myself off as I grabbed my backpack of goods. I groggily grabbed my wand, black and silver, made of dragon heartstring and placed it in the pocket inside of my jacket. My clothes, all Muggle bought, were strikingly all black which didn’t help that I haven’t washed them in a while. Yet, I tried to look my best.
I heard a loud crack come from outside as I heard Dumbledore and another voice seep through the glass. My instincts made me push the backpack onto my back as I ran down the ancient stairs to a large dimly lit room with a fireplace, some portraits, and a white wolf, Col, who lay watching. Of course, Dumbledore and a woman, who I did not know, were both there speaking by the fire.
“Well good morning Vruden, I hope last night kept you well.” Dumbledore smiled.
I nodded, not having the need to say anything as I looked over at the woman. She was rather plump, with a nice smile to fit her face with kept blonde hair. She wore a rather obnoxiously colored dress with dragons on them, yet none the less, she must be here for a reason.
“Oh, and this is Marvine. She is an old friend of mine and will be getting you tidy for your first day at Hogwarts.” Dumbledore stated as Marvine smiled over towards me.
“It is very nice to meet you Vruden.”
“Getting me tidy?” I said, looking over at Dumbledore questioningly as a chair popped up from the floor as I was strapped in and immediately tilted backwards.
I stared wide eyes as Marvine waved her wand as a towel, scissors, and gel waved their way towards my head. “Let’s, see what we can do here!” she said, cheerfully.
“Professor!” I yelled, but it was of no use. Dumbledore just stood there, smiling as I felt the scissors spin around my head. The cloth was draped on my face, constantly dipping in a bowl of water as it cleaned my ears and down my neck. I tried to squirm away, but I noticed that whatever spell she used on me, kept me in my place. I wanted to break free, to stop her diabolical Hogwarts cleansing; however, I knew that using my powers would attract my father. So, I sat, unwillingly, until I felt the scissors leave my head as gel was laid upon my hair.
The chair forcefully moved upright, almost making me fly out of it as I grasped on like a cat on a rocking chair. “Tada!” Marvine cheered as Dumbledore walked over towards me.
“Ah, that will do,” he says, he waves a mirror in my face.
To be honest, I was very surprised by the outcome. My hair was shorter and groomed, but still long as I liked it to be. However, you could see my sea eyes clearly and my firm face. I rather thought I looked handsome for my age.
“And one more finishing touch!” Marvine sang.
I looked back at her in horror, only to feel my body stuck once more. This time, a puff of smoke engulfed me as felt my clothes rip off my body. My only thought was for my wand, which floated away with my jacket. Yet, I suddenly felt water wash over me as my clothes left my body. It was cold, making my mind go wild, as sponges with soap scrubbed over my body.
I sighed a bit of relief, until the cold water sprang over me again. This was soon followed by hand towels that left the wind of the room dance over my skin. As I was about to get rid of Marvine’s spell, I begin to see clothes. Nice kept clothes to my liking. I felt the warmth of the nice black pants and a white button up shirt fall over me. This was followed by a black tie which wrapped around my neck. Also, for the finishing touches a black wizard cloak ran over my body and fell upon my arms as my wand was gracefully put into my pocket.
The puff of smoke evaporated as I looked stunned at my new wardrobe. I looked like a proper school boy. Not that I cared, for Hogwarts was the place I have always wanted to attend.
“Marvelous!” Dumbledore beamed as Marvine walked over towards me.
“I think he looks just like one of your esteemed students, don’t you?” Marvine piped.
“Yes, yes he does. Now, you have your wand. The books and such I have for you already. You are missing an animal. You are asked to have a cat, owl, or a toad. However, due to your circumstances, I believe Col will be sufficient. He is very keen with Death Eaters, so you will be fine.” Dumbledore states.
Col sat up right, shaking himself off. I looked over at him as Dumbledore motioned me towards the door. “I want this to be a learning experience for you. While at Hogwarts, you will learn how to be a great wizard, Vruden. Your path that you create is your own.”
I nod, walking at Dumbledore’s side as Marvine follows close behind with Col. Col comes by my side, looking up at me with his Hazel eyes. I gently pat his head as Dumbledore stops in his tracks.
“Have a safe trip won’t you!” Marvine calls as Dumbledore winks at her, as we vanish from the world I knew.
I open my eyes, as if I was in a dream, suddenly appearing in an enormous hallway. It full of wizards and witches, all students, who walk merrily in the hallway as they talk and laugh. I stare, stunned as Dumbledore leads me down the crooked hallways with Col on my heel.
“Hello Professor!” I hear students call left and right.
Dumbledore kindly says good morning to them as we go down a secluded hallway. I suddenly realize that the students are headed towards a large banquet hall. They all head towards the tables for Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Dumbledore seems to brighten in this room, smiling at the students as they seem ever so pleased to see him. It was as if I was in a different dimension. I’ve never seen so much joy fill one place.
“Follow me.” Dumbledore calls as I keep on his heel. We march towards the professors table, as several of the professors seem to eye me in horror.
One professor, who I recall is named McGonagall approaches Dumbledore at once. “Dumbledore, what on earth are you doing?”
Dumbledore, always his cheery self, just smiles. “It is all right Minerva, this is for the best.”
Professor McGonagall steps back as we pass, eyeing me intently. “I will be keeping an eye on you Vruden.”
I stare back at her, not in the least bit worried. My skills, even though they are unpolished, are more refined than hers. She, like most of the professors, need to be worried about themselves.
Dumbledore went up to his seat, allowing the remanding students to flock in as he made a seat for me by his side. I was rather shocked that he would let me sit up here, but I sat next to the cat-like Professor McGonagall. Col lay down beside me as he groaned a little from her presence.
“So! Now that we are all fed and watered, I must once more ask for your attention, while I give out a few notices. Mr. Filch, the caretaker, has asked me to tell you that the list of objects forbidden inside the castle has this year been extended to include Screaming Yo-yos, Fanged Frisbees and Ever-Bashing Boomerangs. The full list comprises some four hundred and thirty seven items, I believe, and can be viewed in Mr. Filch's office, if anybody would like to check it. As ever, I would like to remind you all that the Forest in the grounds is out-of-bounds to students, as is the village of Hogsmeade to all below third year...(Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire)” Dumbledore states.
He continues on to tell the students about the Quidditch Cup, a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher Professor Moody, and about a Triwizard Tournament for 17 year olds to enter. It is at this time that I see Harry Potter in the crowd. He sits amongst his fellow Gryffindors, yet he stares right back at me along with a girl and a red-headed boy. Yet, between our stares he grasps the scar on his head, looking worryingly in my direction. Whether he knew who I was or not, by his friends rushed actions to help him, I already knew that I was their main priority.
“And now I would like to introduce a new student at Hogwarts,” Dumbledore says as he looks back towards me.
I rather shyly, but firm, stand up from my seat as I feel the eyes of the students and professors bear into my soul.
“This is Vruden Riddle,” he says in between gasps, “and he will be staying at Hogwarts under my care. He will not be a part of any house but I do wish for you to pay him the same respect as you do your fellow house members.”
“Professor!” I hear a boy, named Seamus, speak up. “You do know that this is Voldemort’s son! We are all in danger by him being here.”
Dumbledore sighs, “This is not...”
“I am not Voldemort’s son!” I shout angrily, shutting up the boy who called me out. “That monster raped and tortured my mother and left her in a paralyzed state. He destroyed my family from the day I was born. I have no father, and just because we share the same bloodline does not make me anything like him.”
With that I sit, looking down at my plate as no one speaks. It is so quiet that I can hear Col breathe. From my two cents, even Professor McGonagall stares over at me in a different light. However, even though my words were strong, that doesn’t mean that my life here will be any easier.
“Seamus, students, you have nothing to worry about. As I stated before, Vruden will be under my care. He is a very powerful wizard and with some training, he can be a great wizard. It is up to you and everyone else to make sure that happens. And with that, I bid you another good year. One as fruitful as the last.”
After Dumbledore speaks, the hall illuminates once more. The students chat amongst themselves, scurry away, laugh, grab some more food from the table, etc. There, however, seem to be some students who are disturbed by my existence her at Hogwarts. Whether this will change, I am not sure; however, I do know that my time here will be a difficult one. I don’t only need to master my techniques but I also need to master...school life.
This is a continuation of Vruden Riddle's tale!
